vBulletin and WoW Roster

Postby Jabouty » Mon Jan 01, 2007 1:04 pm

I am working on implementing the roster into our guild's vBulletin at the moment and would like to request permission to release it both here and at vbulletin.org (only licensed user can get it there) when it is completed.

The plan is to implement the roster, uniadmin, uniuploader executable, and the uniuploader java system all into the vBulletin backend. It will take some work on coding it, but I have already done it once before my server crapped out and am now being forced to recode it from scratch.

The last time it was coded without other installations in mind, but if I can get permission for release then I will code the port for vBulletin installation.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

PS, my username on vbulletin.org is Cloudrunner if you wish to check my credentials there.

You are more than welcome to do so
Just keep to our license (by keeping license.txt, the footer text, and the credits page) and you'll be fine

Done Deal.

I'll start working on it immediately. Give me a few weeks to get it fully vB install compatible.

Thank you!

I'm adding this to each file for the vBulletin installation:
/*======================================================================*\

|| # All Rights Reserved. http://www.astralorder.com # ||
|| # ---------------------------------------------------------------- # ||
|| # WoW Roster backend used under license and by permission of Zanix # ||
|| # of WoW Roster (http://www.wowroster.net) # ||

Do I need to change any of this to fit the license / copyrighting requirements for WoW Roster?

vBulletin and WoW Roster

Gravy

Update: Uploads to vBulletin are coded and working properly, fully phrased in vB and is parsing the files 100% into the DB. I'm starting work on the UU uploads as this is going to take a little tweaking to get UU and vB to share the info correctly. That's step 2.

Step 3 I'll start working on putting the information from the uploads into a readable format using vB templating based on the WoW Roster code.

So, long story short, got a big step finished today, but still have alot of work to do to get it right.

I'll keep progress updated until it's ready for release. Again, Thank you for allowing me to do this.

Just a quick update. The UniUploader for the profiles is completed now and is working beautifully. I have not yet started working on the UniAdmin interface yet as my guild wants me to finish the front-end first.

That said, I'm about 75% done with the index page / memberlisting for the system within vBulletin. After that I'll start working on the rest. The only problem I am seeing is with addons...

I don't see a way to get the addons to work without recoding each and every one of them just yet, so I've put them on the back burner in the hopes that I will have an epiphany. Until then, no addons just yet for the vB port.

This has been a quick update :D

I'm only coding it with 3.6.x in mind as that is their most current, and I've only one license to fiddle with :D.

Cool, I look forward to this. I've been using vB for years and I love it and thing it is the best out there.

I have a few Roster integrations in my site now (http://www.wowhq.com) namely, I added a drop down at the top and I have the small Siggen Avatar displayed next to people's names when they post on the forum.

I was really hoping somebody would create a port that would integrate the actual Roster page INTO the Forums so you didn't go "off site" to view it.

This is an actual port into vbulletin coding and standards, to include the phrasing system so that people can translate the code easily via the admincp. The general look and feel is using vbtemplating system 100% so that there is no change in how your forums look and how the port looks other than the actual tables which are keeping the original WoW Roster CSS styling.

I'm looking at adding styling options much later down the road...

For the uploader / page uploading what I have done is that anyone with admin rights can upload the guild roster. On this upload the uploader checks for new characters that are listed at a guild rank (whatever you have listed for non alts / mules) or better (for my guild it's Rank 8). Any that the uploader finds that are not already vbulletin / roster members it adds them to the vbulletin user list as it adds them to the roster with a default password that you set.

If the uploader finds any users who have left the guild but are still on the vbulletin users list it will remove them from the list to keep your userbase updated. This elliminates the need for your guildies to register with the website, and garauntees that they are using their character name as their username so that folks will know who they are talking with.

After I've finished up the main front end I'll be integrating the siggen into the system as well to give people a default avatar and signature block if they have not uploaded one already.

All in all I'm hoping to have this a complete port, the only issue is that I am still fighting with myself on how to handle porting addons...but that will be for a later time.

I'm looking at starting Beta installs ready for Mid-February.

I'll keep you all updated here.
