Roster 1.7.1 CMS

There are a few posts around the Boards about the devs view on Integration into CMS, such as phpBB.

Im not quite sure on what you mean by integration tho. Are there plans to remove the Authentication integration? Or are you refering to integrating Roster into the CMS like a portal?

Has a quick look on forums and a few searches but couldnt find an answer.

Im sure i saw a post somewhere saying that in 1.7.1 all phpBB integration will be removed, is this correct?

Our official stance on integration into a CMS (content management software) is as follows...

WoWRoster is designed as a standalone application and is not ment for integration into a CMS.
There are some briliant people who do work on porting WoWRoster to certain CMS's such as WoWRosterDF (for Dragonfly CMS) and WoWRoster for phpNuke, and they do a wonderful job sqeezing WoWRoster into a module for these CMS's.

In some cases, the devs of WoWRoster are willing to help with porting (I myself wrote the installation for WoWRosterDF) but this is only when they have the time and the want to do this.
Since version 1.6.0 we have tried to make WoWRoster easier to port to a CMS module (better css, pathing, html validity, and so on).
Our stance is that WoWRoster is enough to deal with on it's own, without having to worry about integration problems.

Also, addons made for WoWRoster are generally designed to run in the standalone version of WoWRoster. If they do not work in a ported version of WoWRoster, then they too must be ported. Some addon authors are willing to help with this process (and who better to help than the author ).

By "Integration" we mean making Roster run as a module in another CMS

We are removing the phpBB authentication for uploading access in Roster 1.7.1

How come the Authentication is being removed? Will there be Mod support for this.

Its hard enough keeping the Groups in phpBB updated, along wil eqDKP, and now having to manage Logins for Roster aswel? its a serious admin overhead when you have a 100+ member guild.

In 1.7.0 you only had to get the groups in phpBB correct and Roster was sorted.

This removal will probably stop me from upgrading to 1.7.1, and many others i expect.

Then don't upgrade, it is after all entirely your choice

I am very sorry but SethDeBlade is right, the implementation of the phpBB authentication was very insecure and we are working on a way to improve that.
Roster 1.8 will have it's own authentication and it can be replaced or changed to use authentication in another CMS, so your CMS's authentication could be used.

Now this will be up to others to write authentication modules for CMS's unless a Dev writes one (I expect to see a phpBB and DragonFly modules included with Roster)
