SMF as a roster addon

Postby PleegWat » Tue Oct 31, 2006 9:18 pm

For what it's worth, I'm currently examining the possibility of porting SMF to function as an addon for roster 1.8. The results so far look promising.

SMF as a roster addon

Would probably be possible. However I'm not sure what that'd mean for our license, and it'd restrict us in reworking the auth in the future. Also, a full auth system for roster itself is already in the works.

Is that SMF as an Addon for Roster or Roster as a Package for SMF?

SMF as a roster addon

This post dates from the first 1.8, which has been later abandoned around the time we released 1.7.1.
This is indeed SMF as as an addon for roster. I've currently got it working with visual integration and correct installing. No linking from forum profiles to characters and such stuff yet, and no auth bridging.

However, it is currently extremely unlikely that this will ever release. The SMF license disallows spreading of 'modified versions' without permission. A request from us to get that permission has been denied.

To be honest, I can't be bothered to learn the SMF package format. There's more interesting stuff I could be doing with my time. If I ever release anything, it will be a unified diff file.
