Which CMS

Postby Wingforce » Sun Dec 10, 2006 12:49 pm

Anaxent, I just started my guild site using DrangonFly as the base. So far things are going pretty well, but I really like the theme you are using on your infragilis site. Is there anyway I can get that theme for my DragonFly site?

Thanks in advance.

Which CMS

Postby bbj911 » Sun Dec 10, 2006 1:28 pm

I'm contemplating changing our entire website for an integrated CMS, but im having touble choosing one.

My Requitements are :
News Items
Forum
WOW Themes
Roster integration ( and some form of DKP )
UniAdmin ( not really required as its own interface is good enough )

We currently have a custom 1st page thingy with cutenews for the news bit and phpbb2 for the forums. No roster integration.

The "theme" someone before my time did and its kinda "MS-Frontpage" hash. I really dont like it and its painfull to try and change without the original frontpage "code".

As for the theme, Darkrage is a horde guild and i'd like a theme along those lines.

Any pointers?

I really like drupal (drupal.org). It's what I use, but the roster integration is only so-so at this point. you can see my website at thehateguild.com.

I must admit I do like the look of your PHPBB Plus site but bbj911 was asking for Roster integration. It can be done with phpBB.

The only thing I don't like about the CMS systems is that they can end up looking very similar except for the colours and graphics unless you want to seriously play around with the templates etc. but they come into their own if you want pretty good security and member only stuff and intergration of roster, forums and other stuff which joe public can not get to without registering. Also allows non techie people to be able to easily post stuff for news etc.

I am in the process of writing my own custom CMS system, that will allow me to design exactly how it looks. I know this could be seen as re-inventing the wheel but it is teaching me so much about php and MySQL that even if I don't copmplete it it will be a brilliant learning experience.

I think personally, download and install any of them and have a play around and see which one suits you best, they are all good, just look at what can be integrated. I have done so which is why I decided to build my own.

best of luck,

Secretone
