Cannot connect to database

Hi all,

I can't see anyone else who's had this problem. I've read all the forums and wiki. At step 2 of the installation where you put in all the database configuration details, the only way I can get to the next step is to put in the name and password that I use to log into the Cpanel website admin. The username and password that I assigned to the database in MySQL don't work. Anyway, I can never get beyond step 3. I always get a 1044 or 1045 cannot connect to database error.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure you assign the username you created in cpanel to the database you created for roster
I forgot that once, pulled my hair out trying to figure it out

Did you use these settings in the installer?

Database name = entropic_roster
Database user = entropic_card
Database password = *****

Yep, and I get the following error.

It's weird that the website admin password works as those details aren't assigned to the database.

The only other thing I think it may be is my server or Cpanel or something. Sometimes, and completely by random, when I log into Cpanel the MySQL databases are missing and the MySQL page is blank. It says in the account summary:

Mysql databases: / unlimited

whereas it should say:

Mysql databases: 2 / unlimited

:shock:

But even when they are there, like now, I have the same problem.

I was kinda hoping that u lads have figured out what this issue is, as i seem to be having the same problem :S

Installing the roster and creating the conf.php file is np, but when i press the link to configure my roster, i get the error of not being able to connect to mysql database with the username ive provided. Ive seen what u guys have wrote about using the correct username and pass, and ive done this 4-5 times now. Ive even tried to delete the database and user accounts, and the creating them again but nada.

Any suggestions at all?

I am glad to see that I am not the only one.. but sad at the same time. I am still trying to figure this out. Any ideas would be hugely appreciated.

Ask your web server host and see if maybe the mysql server is on a different server (not localhost)

try changing your user name just to entropic instead of entropic_card. i had the same issue and that worked for me for some reason. now im having another issue though on the post below this one

Well, it is finally working! I explained my problem to my web server host and he created a new DB and user and it magically worked. He doesn't know why mine didn't work. I wish I knew! If only I had done that 3 months ago.
