different AddOn packages

Postby Movix » Sat Apr 07, 2007 8:53 pm

hello,

I'am using your great work since one year, and you have improved a lot the functionality of roster, and Uni-Uploader/Admin. thank's a lot for that.

As I'am french, and my english is not very good, i can only give you a poor contribution, but i stay available for french localisations. feel free to contact me for that.

Now to the Idea.
Some of my guild members like to have different AddOns i make available with Uniuploader, but are to lasy to select them, or are affraid of making mistakes.
I started to have multiple UniAdmin configuration and database, to mandatory these AddOns, but it is a lot of more administration.

It would be great to group AddOns to different packages that can be selected within uniUploader. The same time it would give a better readability to have the same pakages visible on the Uniadmin AddOn page.

I think a way could be to define serveral Pakages, and select from the entire AddOns list the addOns that have to be in this or that package.

Example:
The AddOns
- 1 Character Profiler
- 2 PvPLog
- 3 GuildEventManger
- 4 Chatmanager
- 5 Ace Fubar (with serveral plugIns)

The packages:
- Basic Package :
- CharacetrProfiler (mandatory)
- GuildEventManger (mandatory)
- PvPLog (optional)

- Extended Package :
- Character Profiler (mandatory)
- Ace Fubar (with serveral plugIns) (mandatory)
- GuildEventManger (mandatory)
- PvPLog (optional)
- Chatmanager (optional)

- Officer Package :
- Character Profiler (mandatory)
- PvPLog (mandatory)
- GuildEventManger (mandatory)
- Chatmanager (mandatory)
- Ace Fubar (with serveral plugIns) (mandatory)

what do you think about that ?

different AddOn packages

You mean like a selector on the addons panel, which lists all of these preset addon lists?

yes, in the tree control, the root shows the different packages, by selection one pakage, all the mandatory AddOns of this package are selected.

indeed, coding myself i know it, but perhaps with the future modifications it'l be possible to prepare such a structure.

but perhaps you have a work around for my needs that i not thought about.

I love the idea of teaching people to not be complete morons, to be able to make intelligent decisions and to be able to use the tools that we work so hard on to make their lives easier. With a strict training and a big stick, we may even be able to get 5% of our users to have a portion of a clue.

Until then.... This is a great idea.

The flip side. I understand what is involved in this, and that is a lot of coding to cater to the lowest common denominator among us. I would love to see it, but it may be too much work for the benefit.
