Installation issues with WoWRoster

can not connect to db on fresh install.

Postby iduna2 » Sun Jul 08, 2007 4:02 pm

After searching for over an hour and trying repeatedly to install WoW Roster, I have determined that 1.) there are several fixes, a couple of which I have no idea how to try, like logging into shell. 2.) I am not misspelling or mistaking the name of my server, my database host name, or the password, nor can I change the database name - only the description.
1&1 is my webhost, and I am using MySQL 4.0
I passed the ready check for installation but after entering in my info, I get:
----------------------------------
Roster Installation
Step 3

Database Error

Failed to connect to database db210149631 as db210149631@db1020.perfora.net

Restart Installation

---------------------------
so far I have tried putting in the exact url for the Roster path, using my portal name in combination with the db name, and I have made sure that my files are readable and writable.
I also tried the IRC but no one in there responded at all, nor were they talking amongst themselves. =(

Please help me. I'd really like to play WOW again someday.

I still have not been able to complete the install. I deleted everything, made a new database (MySQL 5) and have gotten to:
Roster Installation
Step 4
Installation Note
Your configuration file has been written, but installation will not be complete until you configure Roster
>Continue to Roster Config<

which then brings me to:
settings.php: line[132]
Could not connect to database "dbo210194554"
MySQL said:
1044: Access denied for user 'dbo210194554'@'%' to database 'dbo210194554'

I opened the config file and found that it's adding an extra "o" to the database name, but if I change that, then it tells me that it's not installed.
Please help.

thanks for helping me in IRC chat, Zanix.
I'm of the opinion that 1&1 hosting lists newly created databases as available when actually they aren't yet. Didn't do anything very different and suddenly it worked. :)

Hi I run roster on 1&1 servers and I have had no problems at all with their databases and service.
I currently have 8 db's with them.
I have always found that as soon as they say it is available it is.

I can see from your details that you had not got the database name right with that extra "o" in it.
For me the format of their database naming is as follows.
dbxxxxxxxxx = Database name
dboxxxxxxxxx = Database User (notice the "o" after "db")
dbxxx.oneandone.co.uk = Database Host

The xxxxxxxxx are numbers and are the same in Database name and Database User
The xxx in Database Host are 3 numbers that they assign and seem to have no relationship (naming wise) to the other details.

I hope this info helps others thinking of using 1&1, I can recommend them.

It seems that Zanix sorted you out and hopefully you are now up and running.
