How do I define and Alt - Complex situation

Postby Aneiled » Tue Apr 08, 2008 7:43 pm

Hi Guys,

I am using Roster2 with the memberlist addon enabled and I am trying to get the system to recognise alts, but am having dificulty setting int up.
I have tried to find something in the documentation, but all my searches cmae up blank.

We have a number of ranks in our guild, two of which define the character as an alt. If the character is an alt the public note field contains the character's main name. If the character is a main then the public not can contain a description of the character, or be blank.

For example

Name: Jaambor
Title: Judge
Note: The Abjurer

Name: Rolics
Title: Assistant
Note: Jaambor

Name: Pretros
Title: Defendant
Note:

Name:Jackl
Title:Witness
Note Pretros

As you can see, Rolics is an alt of Jaambor and Jackl is an alt of Pretros.

How could I set this up using the rule definitions?

Many Thanks

Assuming the main name is always the first word in the alts note:

/([\w]+)/i

Apply on field: Public note
No result: Main
Invalid result: Main

NO. The only values in the note field will be the main's name if the character is an alt, as defined by their rank. (Assistant and Witness are alt ranks, Judge and Defendant are main ranks)

You can't filter on multiple columns, I'm afraid.
The solution I suggested will work if the main name is the first (or only) word in the alt's note. It will fail if a main's note has a different main's name as the first (or only) word.

OK It worked, now I understand what it's doing, but I had to run the update twice as initially some of the alts showed up as mainless alts. Possibly a bug?

Known issue. It processes the characters in a more or less random order, so if it runs into an alt while the main it belongs to isn't in the system as a main yet, it'll set the alt as mainless

I'm having a similar problem but not as complex, Mainly it's my being unable to search correctly thru the forums apparently:) But my main is Durvien and have the alts Durveen, Durv and Durvevil. When I put in the public notes Durvien's <class> Alt, Durvien's Alt, or even drop the 's on it roster does show that we have alts in the guild count but doesn't group them together. I have it set to group (closed) and have tried group (open) also still nothin. So I guess the main ? is how do I get roster to recognize it's someones alt?

MembersList does not process alts on the fly, it processes them during a CP update or via the "Update Relations" in "Roster Config -> Members List"

When you change the reg_ex field in memberslist, you have to activate "Update Relations"

Ahh I think that's my problem right there.. what do I put in the reg_ex field if I want it to be Durvien's Hunter Alt to catch it as a alt for Durvien? currently in there is :

/ALT-([\w]+)/i

No idea what that is looks like a calculus problem to me !!

Or even easier what do I put in the note that would make that reg_ex work properly?

I think that it would be helpful to make a combo box here

It would have some very common reg ex strings and give the ability to enter a custom one

But making combo boxes in html is difficult...it could be done though
I wonder what PleegWat thinks

It's fine with me. I don't think the config system currently supports combo boxes where you are also allowed to enter a custom value though. Not sure if HTML does either.

While testing these things, remember roster/?p=guild-memberslist-debug will show what mains are parsed out of your note with the current configuration, without needing to reprocess.

Making combo boxes in html requires a bit of js, it would layer a text box on top of a select box

Or we could implement something similar to the color picker
