will test this asap but came up with another idea (i know your gonna end up hating me for these)

text field to define the default avatar as it is changeable in DF (and i currently am using a PNG not gif)

but i think the code would be simple

This one's fine, cos it's easy (and I have a todo comment to this effect as well). It'll be done in the next commit.
