I tried to start UU with windows, but it terminated itself with the message that it encountered a problem and has to be closed. No further information on why it happened.

I noticed that this only happens when the PC is offline. Neither on windows startup nor on a running windows is it possible to start UU if there's no online connection.
Is that a normal behavior or can I do something against that? I think it's not that uncommon that one starts the PC without an online connection.

I'm having that Problem with the 2.6.8 and the 2.6.9.1 version.

K, what OS are you running exactly?

I'm currently on coding a new version atm (yes its yet another new build coming, lol. 2.6.9.4, or is it .5 I'm losing track of which revision now, haha) after which I'll have a look into it if I remember and see what I can locate to causes.

I already know of one cause of crash and I believe its the thing thats effecting yours atm. Simply put its not cos its got no network, but due to the fact it can't see the target server. Whether or not the network existed I was getting a crash if a target server didn't exist yet (IE was offline or not setup yet, etc).

I'll try to implement some fix to put in say a timer delay check to wait say 30-60 seconds to try to connect again if its not connected. This should help in ref to the crash. I've made a note to look into this soon as I've sorted a new tweak out I'm on working on atm.

I'm running, or rather my PC ist running on WinXP Professional SP3.
