I need help creating the mysql database ^_^

Postby fellgernon » Tue Aug 29, 2006 9:11 am

Hello all,

First of all thx for reading this post. I've been looking into the wiki, and searching thru the forum with no luck. My main problem, besides having no knowledge on how to use mysql, is that I need to create the database which is requiered on step #2 of the installation.

Anyhow, I was wondering if I have to modify a file and input the "database username" and password data. However, I can't find anything that points out to that.

Since learning mysql would take a considerable amount of time, I'm starting by requesting a simple mysql database. A file which has the basic and needed stuff, and if it could be pointed out the places that I would have to modify with my username info.

I'm aware that you need to know the mysql version and all that, that is why I'm posting a screenshot of step #1. Also, I'm planning on hosting it on www.t35.com which seems to meet the requierements.

Thank you very much for your time, which is greatly appreciated.

Later, Fellgernon (NE priest named Nyu on TL).

Log into your wev host's config panel for your site
Cpanel, Plesk, or similar

Under mySQL databases
Create a user and a password
Create a database
Give the user permissions to use the database
Remember that username, password, database name
Start roster installer and enter those things you remembered into the right boxes
Read the Forum Rules, the WiKi, and Search before posting!

In your control panel for your website, create a new MySQL database, you can usually do this under a link named Create Database, or something similar. I name my Roster databases roster. you can name it whatever you want. After you create that, you will start the install of the Roster itself. When it asks for the username, database name, and password of the database, supply what you just put in there. most hosts use the naming convention as follows:
say your login for your server account is santa;
database name: santa_roster
username: santa_roster
password: whatever you made it

Hope this helps. :)

edit: Zanix you beat me to the post. :)

I need help creating the mysql database ^_^

I have a related question...

I am having trouble installing the Roster as well, but having a slightly different problem.

I've created a DB named roster and all that, but when I go to install.php I get to the third step and it says "Failed to connect to database roster as (my username)"

What did I do wrong? I also know nothing about sql databases.

Thanks for any info.

I"m having the same problem of failed to connect. I used the same login and password, and it has permissions. What was the solution?
