I've also been coding for over 30 years. yeah, they call me papa in my guild too.

Aye, yeah, I do think a cooperative work is in order. I would, however like to see how the user base will be set up with the new version.

Perhaps we should start brainstorming some "SMF features?"

Some of the things I'd like to see, SMF permissions for:
- view the roster
- update the guild roster
- update personal characters

and some personal settings by user:
- hide personal bank vault from others
- hide personal inventory
- hide worn gear
(some of our guildies don't want their banked items showing to everyone)
- use IFrame or Full Screen
- user customizable columns

Also I was thinking it would be cool if a user could "select a main" character when uploading their data. (assumes all other characters are alts). Our guild doesn't have a specific "rank" for alts. I think it would be a nice feature.

Maybe you can come up with some more "features" too?

- display mains and a subcolumn with their alts,
- username in SMF is main (or vise versa)
- make the style adapt to the current SMF theme
- supports multiple guilds: make them correspond with usergroups in SMF?
- display a players main and alts (and their proffessions?) on his SMF-profile, and in their posts (eg below their avatar or display their sig automaticly as signature in SMF) like you can do manually with WoW Character Profiles.
- make WoW Itemstats cover both SMF and Roster

Ill try to come up with some more.

SMF Bridge in testing

Postby clad001 » Sat Dec 23, 2006 2:43 pm

First, thank you very much for this great work !
I used this for my SMF forum and it worked perfectly.
But since last Blizzard's 2.0 update, WoW Roster 1.7.1 was not working anymore. A beta version 1.7.2 is allready released but SMF bridge I was using till now doesn't seem to work good anymore.
Is there allready existing an SMF bridge for WOW Roster 1.7.2 beta version ?
If it does, could I get the url please ? thx

I havnt found the time yet to mess with the 1.7.2 version yet. it will have to be patched again. This is one of the reasons I wanted to wait for 1.8 so I didn't have to redo a "bridge" with each new version.

I will take a look and see what needs to be changed for 1.7.2 as soon as I get some time (sometime after the holidays).

thx a lot. Finally not a lot of changes had to be done to make it work. I should say how I did for anybody looking for the same answers but I'm even not able to explain to myself how I made it work... ^^

SMF bridge seems to work still with the new version of WoW Roster. Just some small changes to do. I'm going to look again after what I did to try to give a way to others expecting the same.
The only bad behaviour I had with this manipulation is for scrolling down menus which don't use index.php from WoW Roster ===> means that selecting an option like reputation for exemple makes this open in a new page... but... better than nothing ^^

SMF Bridge in testing

Im glad that you have started with the bridge, i will test it as soon as 1.8 has been finished and the mod will be available here. I think its ok to abuse our forums as we going to update soon to next release 1.3 of SMF (still waiting for some final modifications).

It all depends how fast the roster develops are working and you release the first steps. I would eventually able to test from a local copy of our dbase to test on.

i keep an eye on this post and wait ;-)

SMF Bridge in testing

Postby Werlii » Wed Jan 03, 2007 11:13 am

I´ll be looking into getting this into the site today, i´ll actually try and implement wow-roster in a tabbed content block, it could be a pain todo but it could be easy too heh

as i previously said only issue seems to get the readme to pass, the rest should be fixable in other ways i hope, atleast until we get the real deal from the talented ppl around here. :)

SMF Bridge in testing

Postby Stug » Wed Jan 31, 2007 8:27 pm

Hi,
I would very much like to implement this mod on my site. However when i attempt to apply the bridge mod on the test site i set up it claims the mod is incompatible with my forums.
I am running SMF 1.1.1 and have the wowroster 1.7.2 files in the correct directory for installation.
Any help getting this working would be great!

Thanks
Stug

Golin wrote:As we are a multi-guild alliance I currently use the 'public' roster, loading it in a dynamic Iframe. I use SMF's custom actions addon and Tiny Portal's menu. No guests are allowed on the site, thus avoiding some security problems.

Different guilds are different usergroups in SMF (all with the same rights). Could you make the SMF permissions so that it will allow players from different guilds to upload their char's to the roster? I'm not sure if Roster will allow this in the first place btw.

Smf allows you to make calls to ssi to use its user database to protect pages it is also very simple to do this http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.ph ... t_restrict

Code: Select all
<?php
      $allowed_groups = array(1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6);
      $can_see = FALSE;
      foreach ($allowed_groups as $allowed)
         if (in_array($allowed, $user_info['groups']))
         {
            $can_see = TRUE;
            break;
         }

      if ($can_see)
      {
         echo '<div>
               Some other stuff here that you want to protect.
            </div>';
      }
      else
      {
         //message or section to show if they are not allowed.
         echo 'Sorry you are not allowed to see this.';

         //If you want to redirect the user to another place you can use the redirectexit() function.
         redirectexit('www.simplemachines.org');
      }
      ?>

SMF Bridge in testing

Postby Ryushi32 » Wed Feb 28, 2007 1:22 am

Is there any way to bridge eqdkp to smf as well. I have been searching all around the internet and cannot find any way to do so it would be really nice to have a bridge that allowed them to be logged into the smf forum click on the eqdkp link and be auto authenticated from the cookie have it copy their profile into eqdkp's member database and use certain member groups to determine permisssions.
